Garden and planting design are iterative processes that, by the very nature of the living materials being used, change and evolve over time. Successful plantings take close observation and tweaking over several seasons to mature.

The Petronio Residency Center at Crow’s Nest is visionary choreographer and artistic director Stephen Petronio’s latest venture.

The potager is conceived to feed and engage resident artists who are on site for creative research. The maze-like garden grows organic produce for the artists in an interactive setting that allows them to sit on the raised bed’s built-in benches to socialize, contemplate and commune with nature.

  • Rustic/Industrial design to complement the residency architecture

  • Centrally sited feature with access from dancer’s wing residences, dance studio and main courtyard

  • 24 Raised beds with sitting benches and trellises made of locally sourced Hemlock hardwood

  • Completely organic materials and growing techniques

  • Log Wall for mushroom cultivation

Mission: Re-grade disturbed site of new home to incorporate spaces for patios, decks, parking and gardens. The master plan includes a luxurious Ipe hardwood deck framed by a fieldstone sitting wall, scree garden, meditation spiral, lower terrace with native borders, amelanchier grove, and an expanded parking bay.

  • 90 tons of boulders

  • 25 pallets of Pennsylvania fieldstone

The pool area is now a focal point of this secluded property, transforming the site into a lush garden room and private oasis screening neighbor views.

Jean-Marc turned our swimming pool into a sanctuary. The blend of colors and heights, grassy textures and different flowering plants was so creative and yet totally harmonious with the setting.
We just love escaping there. Working with Jean-Marc was a joy!

New masonry steps and railings for a charming woodland retreat. The rustic design feels like it has always been part of the landscape and blends in with the cottage and setting.

Hortulus Animae - Mindful Garden Design created a gorgeous front walk way for our home - railings, lighting and blue slate steps.
I was thrilled with Jean-Marc’s unique and beautiful vine railings. We get compliments on them every time we have guests. We feel very grateful for his vision!
